The Sun on 3/30/06 in natural white light. Taken with the Orion ED80 refractor and glass solar filter. Toucam Pro II camera with a 0.6 focal reducer. A couple of sunspot groups are appearing and will be traversing the disc from lower left to upper right over the following 2 weeks. Some faculae are visible on the far lower left near the limb where they are usually seen ! The granulation is also readily discernible in this image. The second image of the Sun taken on March 29, 2008 shows what sunspots look like at the level of the chromosphere which is the level above the photosphere not visible to the eye. This was taken with a solar HA filter.
